2021 in 3 Words
2021 is only a little over a month old, but it has been a crazy month. We’ve already had some historic events with the January 7th terrorist attack, a president sworn in, the Reddit attack on Wall Street, and of course, the COVID-19 issues carried over from 2020. To describe this year so far in three words or phases is difficult, but I’m going to try.
Fresh start. I know, I know, that’s technically two words. We’re just going to look past that, however. 2020 was definitely the strangest year I’ve lived through in my eighteen years on this Earth. Now in 2021, it’s a chance to start fresh again. Last year was very difficult, and while the literal difference between December 31st, 2020 and January 1st, 2021 is minimal, the mental difference is significant. It’s a new year. It’s a new chance to work on ourselves, learn something new, and meet new people. It’s a fresh start to bounce back from anything 2020 gave us.
Transition. In January 2021 I spent most of my days sitting at my desk in a zoom class, working on homework, or working on my job. At the end of this year, I will most likely be living in Phoenix, Arizona, and attending Arizona State University working on my sports journalism degree. The year that was once slapped onto our computer usernames all those years ago has finally arrived. I get to spread my wings and leave the nest, and while I’m very excited, I’m also nervous. I’ll be multiple time zones away from home, on my own. I am just hoping for a smooth transition from high school to college in 2021.
Thankful. Every day I try to find something or someone to be thankful for. 2020 showed us that simple things can be taken from us at any minute. The world came to a standstill for months and many people, myself included, missed out on a lot of opportunities and a lot of things that we normally take for granted. In 2021 I need to be more appreciative of everything around me, my family, my education, my health, my friends, and more. That is my ultimate goal in 2021, and I’d be very thankful if I achieved it.
